Burrows and Ahyan

In the papers discussed this week, we deal with appropriate models for Schizophrenia. The Ahyan paper discusses the hDISC1 mutant which shows tendencies for schizophrenic behavior. I disliked this paper because of the inconsistencies between their different groups without adequate explanation. Groups were often switched between male and female for no given reason. Also, some background information was omitted or not given adequate explanation. LIS is never properly identified.

Burrows approach to Schizophrenia seemed to have a much more straightforward feel. Enriched housing vs standard housing was the only real variable that was tested in their experiments. They were looking at one type of neurological receptor and it's effects, rather than a wide arching gene that was is not fully understood.
